The village of Sotira is located in the southeastern part of the Mesaoria Valley, 10 km south of the city of Famagusta. The village got its name in honor of Christ the Savior. The main village temple is called Chrysosotiros.
Sotira is one of the largest agricultural areas in Cyprus. A significant part of the population of the village is also engaged in animal husbandry and the tourism sector.
A part of the nature reserve belonging to Lake Paralimni is located on the territory of Sotira, and the local flora and fauna is protected by the state and international organizations. The nearest beach, Ayia Thekla, is located 5 km south of the village.
