Villa – Avignon, Provence - Alpes - Cote d'Azur, France
- Bedrooms4
- Guests9
Full of character and authentic charm, this sophisticated country home is nestled in the heart of Provence, only a five minute walk from the village of Sauveterre and just a few miles from Avignon, Orange and the Pont-du-Gard.
Formerly home to a French winemaker who built it in 1860, this beautiful traditional bastide has undergone a complete renovation preserving most of its original features such as large stone fireplaces, flagstone flooring, wooden doors, wrought iron gates and the romantic orangerie, now turned into a garden annex for two people. It is tastefully furnished with a mix of modern and antique pieces, and thanks to original thick stone walls, it is naturally cool during the summer months and warm in winter. The lush garden is simply gorgeous; find your favourite shady spot among tall cypresses, pine and olive trees, or just unwind under the vine clad pergola and enjoy an evening meal al fresco with your family and friends, and of course, a glass of local wine. A friendly game of pool or table tennis is always a successful holiday diversion, as is a dip in the swimming pool, with its far reaching views over Mont Ventoux.
Exploring this region from your villa could not be easier. Famed for its prestigious wine denominations – including Chateauneuf du Pape – the sweeping landscape of Provence, covered in lavender fields and vineyards, never fails to inspire its many visitors. The Romans left an important legacy in this land such as the splendid amphitheatres in Orange and Arles and the iconic aqueduct in Pont-de-Gard. Furthermore, within a few minutes’ drive of your villa is the majestic Palais des Papes in Avignon. Picturesque towns and villages, such as St Remy-de-Provence and Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, boast an incredible charm as well as lively weekly markets and summer festivals. Active types will also enjoy hiking along the trails in the Rhone valley or, further south, in the Regional Park of Les Alpilles. If you dare climb Mont Ventoux, make sure you have the right equipment and check the weather forecast as it is known to be one of the most challenging peaks in France!
