The sea is at 500 metres linear; Heraklion airport and port within 20 km.
Agia Pelagia was once a fishing village with the surrounding areas devoted to farming and agriculture. In the 1970’s the beauty of the area with is bays and coves began to become and grow into a popular holiday resort, both for locals and foreigners. There are seasonal shops, tavernas, medical services and tourism services. A couple of small supermarkets and tavernas stay open for the winter. The bay is protected from the wave-creating north winds, so the sea is nearly always calm.
