The seaside town of FRIGOLE belongs to the province of Lecce and enjoys a particular position, which stood at the center of the most beautiful cities of Salento. Frigole is in fact only 15 km from Lecce, 40 from Otranto and 35 from Brindisi. The beach here is characterized by a beautiful sandy bottom with crystal clear waters. The wet basin covers about 100 hectares and is surrounded by dunes and Mediterranean scrub. Two channels connect Acquatina the Adriatic Sea and the care of this area, of particular interest, directly entrusted to the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences and Technologies of the University of Salento. Frigole consists essentially in a small residential area built, plus a beautiful particularly popular beach area in the summer season. The beauty of the sea, alone could be enough to warrant a trip here, but add to it the excellence of the local tastes to the particularity of the food festivals organized here. Very strong in these villages is the folklore, not surprisingly 15 August are held the festivities in honor of Our Lady of the Assumption, consisting — among other things- in a procession to the sea with many small boats.
