Villa la Pistrice
- Bathrooms5
Whenever anyone mentions Positano, the first image to appear before our eyes is the classic pyramid of colored houses sloping down to the sea. Positano is a crisscross of hidden gardens, terraces drowning in colorful bougainvillea, windows overlooking the sea and all kinds of boats bobbing around in the Mediterranean, looking back towards that colorful pyramid. This is Positano, a slow-paced Mediterranean village filled with color and warmth. Villa la Pistrice perfectly fits into this setting: it is high-class 18th century villa characterized by the charm that only true authenticity can bestow. Sunny and welcoming, it is a treasure hidden in the center of Positano. The villa is accessed along a typical narrow alleyway that turns a corner to reveal this splendid residence with its majestic patio and hidden garden overlooking the rooftops of Positano and the sea. At the entrance, below the patio, is a bas-relief depicting the “Pistrice”, a mythological sea creature that feeds on fish. As you enter the villa you will be surprised to discover an ancient authentic wood-fired oven which has incredibly remained intact over the years, and reminds us of the times when people used to make their own bread at home. Moving in the opposite direction to the oven, there are living rooms and a dining room leading onto a kitchen which is also reminiscent of times past and flooded with diffused light from a large glass window that leads onto a terrace covered by a pergola dressed in vines to provide shade for the outdoor table. This could be an ideal movie set but instead the villa is open to guests who wish to live here, even for just a brief period. A majestic stone staircase beneath vaulted ceilings decorated with bas-reliefs leads to the upper floor where the 4 main bedrooms are located, all of which have access to the panoramic terrace where the Tower of Fornillo, located at sea level, is a constant presence. Villa la Pistrice is an ideal place for anyone who wants to throw themself into the everyday life of Positano, becoming one of the locals. All sorts of public services can be reached by foot, from shops to a wide choice of restaurants. The bus stop is just a few steps away and, although it is not necessary to have a car, the villa has a private garage where it is possible to park two small/medium cars. Due to the low height of the garage entrance it cannot be used to park vans. Fornillo Beach is around 500 meters away. WIFI internet connection
