Villa – Maratea, Basilicata, Italy

Seaside family villa with pool and tennis court Italy – if you enjoy clean beaches, stunning scenery, excellent food, a relaxed Italian lifestyle and the opportunity to try somewhere new, Villa Minerva could be just the place for you. The villa is in Maratea, a seaside resort on the Golfo di Policastro just south of the beautiful Cilento coast, south of Naples and Amalfi.
This attractive modern villa offers plenty of outdoor space for everyone, with a large pool and a private tennis court cum football pitch, as well as a good-sized garden with plenty of room for children to play. The villa is comfortably furnished in a simple, minimalist style, and you can enjoy mountain views — as well as a sea view — from both the ground floor and upstairs terraces. The old medieval centre (borgo) of Maratea is charming with its colourful buildings, narrow streets and little squares. You will find restaurants, pavement cafes and shops here. Families will love the beaches along this stretch of coast, many of which have blue flag status: some are sandy, others are shingle or pebbly – and the clear sea is ideal for snorkelling and scuba diving.
The town's principal landmark is its 21-metre marble statue of Christ the Redeemer atop Monte San Biagio. A drive up to the statue — which you can also admire from the villa's terrace — will be well repaid with unforgettable views. This part of Italy does not attract large numbers of foreign tourists as yet, despite its stunning coastal scenery and lovely beaches, so the villages and towns have retained their character and laid-back appeal. This region is well worth exploring for the natural beauty of its landscape. You are on the edge of the Cilento and Pollino national parks here, where you can go riding, hiking and mountain biking. For day trips the ancient ruins of Paestum are just an hour and a half’s drive north; en route you could also take in the village of Castellabate, classed as one of Italy's most beautiful villages. There are plenty of pretty fishing villages along the coast, as well as caves and grottoes to visit, accessible by sea and by land.
