The mansion “The Old post” is located in the centre of Vrhnika and has a significant historical value. It was also used by one of the previous presidents of Slovenia.
The house is one of the oldest and most important buildings in Vrhnika. It stands on the banks of the Ljubljanica river, where until 1790 there was a port. The old post office with toll house and Inn was probably built in the 15th century. In Valvasor’s time, it had an extra floor, and it was actually created by merging two houses. In 1728, the Austrian Emperor Charles VI. spent the night here. In 1809, when the house was renovated, one floor was removed.
The building was renovated in 1988 and 2006. The heating is on city gas.
There is a beautifully restored sun clock on a building that is still working.
There is a large garden outside with special vegetation that attract people from everywhere. The plot is fenced. The garden offers a nice place to relax or shade in hot summer days. The plot in total has 2.450 m²
The mansion can be used as a residential house or for business purposes. Due to the charming and unique architecture it can offer a great and pleasant residence. The ground floor is vaulted, and the first floor has large rooms, higher ceilings and mosaic parquets. There are also admire great frescos in the rooms.
