Denia is a town in the Region of Valencia, located on the coast in the north of the province of Alicante. It is the capital of the Marina Alta district, some of which is known as the Marquesado de Denia. Denia has a population of 41,591 inhabitants. Besides the town of Denia, the district is home to several villages with varying degrees of independence:? La Jara (La Xara): to the north of the city, between Denia and Ondara.? Jesús Pobre: to the west of Denia, on the other side of the Montgó.? La Pedrera: located in the foothills of the Montgó. The Montgó (753 m): A nature reserve since 1987, this mountain reigns majestically over the 66,2 km² that make up the region and is home to a variety of indigenous plants and animals, as well as being the site of a number of caves and trails. Other areas of natural beauty in the area include the Las Marinas and Las Rotas beaches and the Marine Reserve at the cape of San Antonio. The town of Denia is also a part of the Costa Blanca, which stretches from Denia to Pilar de la Horadada. BORDERING REGIONS Denia borders with Oliva (in the province of Valencia) along the coast to the north and Jávea (in the province of Alicante) to the south. The Mediterranean Sea lies to the east and there are several towns to the west: Els Poblets, Vergel, Ondara, Pedreguer, Gata de Gorgos and Teulada. Transport The N-332 and the A-7 motorway (junction 62) link Denia with Valencia and Alicante. There is a railway station serving the Denia-Alicante F. G. V. line. It is also connected by sea to Ibiza (less than 4 hours away) and Palma de Mallorca.
