Laguna Property, the real estate division of Laguna Resorts & Hotels, began in the 1980s with the creation of Laguna Phuket, Asia's pioneering integrated resort. As a subsidiary of a publicly traded company, it has grown to be a leading developer, known for its expansive and innovative property offerings.

History of Laguna Property

In 1984, Laguna Resorts and Hotels, part of Banyan Tree Holdings, acquired over 550 acres in Phuket, transforming an old tin mine into a resort haven. The opening of Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket in 1987 marked the beginning of its development, followed by Laguna Beach Resort in 1991, and both Sheraton Grande Laguna Phuket and the Laguna Phuket Golf Club in 1992, broadening the scope of luxury offerings and residential opportunities in the area.

In 1993, Laguna Resorts and Hotels debuted on the Thai Stock Exchange, initiating property sales with the Allamanda condominiums. The following year saw the opening of both the Canal Village shopping centre and Banyan Tree Phuket, the group's marquee hotel. Expansion continued with the launch of Banyan Tree Bintan in Indonesia and the Quest Laguna Phuket Adventure in 1995, and by 1997, the first phase of Banyan Tree Residences was made available for purchase.

In 1998, the launch of Laguna Holiday Club and the opening of Laguna Bintan Golf Club marked significant expansions. The year 1999 saw the inauguration of the first Angsana Spa within Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket. By 2000, the Angsana brand further established itself with new openings in Bintan and at the Great Barrier Reef. 2001 was notable for Laguna Property, as it began operations by introducing Laguna Residences and Townhomes to the market.

In 2002, the acquisition of a significant land area next to Laguna Phuket was aimed at future expansions, alongside rebranding the Westin Banyan Tree to Banyan Tree Bangkok. By 2005, the purchase of Thai Wah Plaza Limited expanded their portfolio to include Banyan Tree Bangkok and its commercial spaces, coinciding with the launch of the second phase of Banyan Tree Residences.

In 2006, Banyan Tree expanded its presence to Lijiang, China, and introduced the Laguna Holiday Club Resort, marking its listing on the Singapore Stock Exchange. This year also saw the debut of Banyan Tree Residences, offering investors the opportunity to own luxury properties within its resorts. Additionally, Laguna Property launched sales for Laguna Village Phase I and Dusit Thani Pool Villas Phase I, broadening its portfolio of high-end living options.

In 2008, the Banyan Tree Management Academy was launched, along with the release of Laguna Village Phase II and The Lofts at Laguna Village. The following year, the company made a strategic investment in the Banyan Tree Indochina Hospitality Fund for a new resort project in Hue, Vietnam, and also saw the opening of Outrigger Laguna Phuket Resort & Villas in December. By 2010, the divestiture of the Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket Hotel was completed in October, marking a significant shift in the company's portfolio.

In 2011, the Sheraton Grande Laguna was rebranded as Angsana Laguna Phuket, and the completion of The Lofts Phase I was marked. The following year saw the launch of Laguna Shores' first phase, with its second phase debuting in 2013 alongside Laguna Park Phuket. 2014 introduced Laguna Shores Bintan, rebranded Cassia Residences, and unveiled Banyan Tree Grand Residences. 2015 celebrated the reopening of Laguna Phuket Golf and the grand opening of Cassia Phuket, highlighting continued growth and development.

In 2016, Banyan Tree expanded into Australia with the launch of its luxury residences in Brisbane, marking its first branded residences in the country. The same year saw the rebranding of Outrigger Laguna Phuket Resort & Villas to Angsana Villas Resort Phuket. Additionally, the company increased its investment in Thai Wah Public Company Limited by 1.25%, launched Angsana Beachfront Residences, and unveiled the newly renovated Laguna Golf Bintan, further broadening its portfolio and enhancing its offerings.

In 2017, the Banyan Tree Grand Residences in Phuket were honoured with the International Property Award for ”Best Residential Property in Thailand“, showcasing their excellence. Meanwhile, the Banyan Tree Residences in Brisbane received recognition for Best Marketing Development and Best Apartment/Condominium in Australia. The year also saw the introduction of Cassia Residences Phuket, Angsana Oceanview Residences Phuket, and new 3-bedroom pool villas at Banyan Tree Residences Phuket, further expanding their luxurious living options.

2018 saw the launch of Dhawa Phuket's initial phase, Laguna Park 2 Phuket, and a new Cassia Residences Phuket building. During this period, the Banyan Tree Group was honoured with eight awards at the International Property Awards, acknowledging their excellence in project marketing and the quality of their residential properties across the Banyan Tree, Laguna, Angsana, and Cassia brands.

In 2019, the completion of Cassia Bintan marked a milestone, while Banyan Tree Residences in Brisbane garnered recognition for its excellence in apartment and high-rise development in Australia. Similarly, Laguna Village Residences in Phuket was celebrated as Thailand's best residential property. Additionally, the introduction of Skypark offered a novel blend of residential and investment opportunities, highlighted by its serviced apartments and distinctive rooftop communal park.
