History of Wanda Group
Founded in 1988, Wanda Group has expanded into a vast multinational conglomerate with a focus on contemporary services. The company is dedicated to becoming a leading asset management entity with hotels at its heart. As an integrated industry chain enterprise, Wanda Hotels & Resorts bridges the gap between hotel development, construction, and management, focusing on three main areas: hotel design, construction, and operation.
The company boasts five primary hotel brands: the ultra-luxury Wanda Reign, the luxurious Wanda Vista, the upscale Wanda Realm, the select-service Wanda Jin, and the premium mid-scale Wanda Moments. The inaugural Wanda hotel, owned and operated by the company, launched in Dalian in June 1996. By December 2003, the first Wanda Hotel managed through a contract opened its doors in Chengdu. Wanda Hotel Investment & Development was established in Beijing in June 2007, laying the groundwork for the foundation of Wanda Hotels & Resorts in February 2012, also based in Beijing.
The Wanda Design Institute was introduced in Beijing in August 2012. Marking a significant milestone, the first Wanda Reign hotel commenced operations in Wuhan in April 2014. In May 2016, the inaugural hotel under a management contract by Wanda debuted in Sanya. By September 2016, the opening of the 100th Wanda hotel in Hefei marked Wanda Hotels & Resorts' ascent as the premier international luxury hotel conglomerate originating from China.
In February 2017, the brand's first hotel outside China began managing under a contract in Istanbul, making Wanda Hotels & Resorts the pioneering Chinese enterprise to extend its luxury hotel brands internationally through contracts. July 2017 saw the integration of Hotel Design, Hotel Construction, and Hotel Management functions.
By August 2017, Wanda Hotels & Resorts had become part of a publicly traded company. In April 2018, Wanda Vista and Wanda Realm launched the Qingdao Oriental Movie Metropolis Hotel, followed by the inauguration of Wanda Realm Qiqihar in June 2018.
