High season in Koh Samui: best time for a vacation
The climate in Koh Samui differs significantly from other regions of Thailand, primarily because, during the rainy season, while most of the country experiences heavy rainfall, Koh Samui remains dry and warm, offering comfortable beach weather.
High Season in Koh Samui
The peak tourist season on the island begins in late December and lasts until mid-March. During this period, the island sees the highest influx of tourists. Air temperatures range from 27—33°C, with sea temperatures around 25°C, humidity is low, and almost daily clear skies allow you to observe picturesque sunrises and sunsets on the island.
Due to high demand during this season, the prices for accommodation, transportation, and excursions rise significantly.
Hot Season in Koh Samui
The hot season in Koh Samui, like the rest of Thailand, begins in mid-March and continues until the end of May. This period is characterised by high temperatures reaching up to 38°C, intense sunlight, and relatively high humidity. The water temperature during this time hovers around 30°C.
From early June to mid-October, the hot season continues. Unlike mainland Thailand, Koh Samui is not affected by monsoon rains during this period and remains a comfortable destination for tourism.
Rainy Season in Koh Samui
From mid-October to late December, Koh Samui enters the rainy season, where heavy rain can last for several days. The average air temperature during this period is around 25°C. This is the ideal season to visit the island’s waterfalls, as they become most powerful during this time.
Due to the lack of mass tourism in the low season, it is possible to rent a house with a good discount.
