Entertainment in Koh Samui: Things to Do and Where to Go

Koh Samui is a paradise for those who love active outdoor recreation. The island is home to several farms with exotic and rare animals, and there are opportunities for diving in the Gulf of Thailand, enjoying a leisurely yacht cruise, or going on a safari around the island.

Diving and Snorkeling in Koh Samui

One of the most popular activities in Koh Samui is exploring the underwater world. Many tourists from around the world come to the island to dive and see coral reefs, pink dolphins, and the amazing diversity of marine life.

The most popular dive sites are the islands of Ang Thong National Marine Park, Koh Nang Yuan, and the vertical rock in the Gulf of Thailand known as Sail Rock.

The most well-known diving centres include Russian Diving Club, Nomad Sea, Scuba Birds, Ample Diving, Easy Divers.

Samui Water Park is located in the north of the island, near Bo Phut and Maenam beaches. The water park features slides for both young children and adults. It also has a dining area and a lounge bar.

Fishing in Koh Samui

A sea trip with fishing and a hearty onboard lunch. Excursions can be organised for a small group in a private setting or as part of a larger tour group. All equipment is already on board, and the lunch includes freshly caught fish.

Surfing in Koh Samui

There are almost no high waves at the beaches of Koh Samui, and the coastline is shallow and gently sloping, often revealing a sea floor with sharp corals during low tide. This makes the island largely unsuitable for surfing. However, during the low season (November-December), when tropical rains bring higher waves, you can find surfboard rentals and beginner lessons on Chaweng and Lamai beaches.

A sightseeing jeep safari around the island is an opportunity to see Koh Samui’s key locations in one day. The tour covers temple complexes like the Big Buddha and Plai Laem, the Secret Buddha Garden, waterfalls, viewpoints, and several coconut and rubber plantations. During the tour, a lunch with traditional Thai dishes is included.

Another unique way to explore Koh Samui is by jet ski, accompanied by a guide. The tour may also include visits to Koh Phangan and Pig Island.

Yacht rental in Koh Samui

Renting a private yacht with a crew can be a unique experience in Koh Samui. During the rental, you can choose your own route, and it’s possible to arrange private diving, fishing, or a romantic sunset dinner. If you have an international captain’s licence, you can rent a yacht for self-navigation, or hire a captain, chef, and cleaning services for a specific period.

Elephants in Koh Samui

The elephant is a symbol of Thailand and one of the most revered animals in the country. Koh Samui is home to 12 elephant farms where visitors can feed elephants, take memorable photos, and even ride them.

Elephant farms in Koh Samui include Namuang Safari, Island Safari, and Funny Day Safari, among others.

There is also a Samui Elephant Sanctuary in the north of the island, where visitors can interact with the elephants.

Monkey centre in Koh Samui

Located near Lipa Noi beach, this is the largest monkey zoo on the island. Visitors can buy food to feed the animals, take pictures, and watch an acrobatic show. Besides monkeys, the farm also has crocodiles and other tropical animals.

Snakes in Koh Samui

In the south of Koh Samui, there is a snake farm where visitors can enjoy a show featuring venomous snakes, including the spitting king cobra. The farm also has other reptiles, and guests can take memorable photos and purchase various medicinal products made from snake fat, venom, and bile at the small shop.

Crocodile farm in Koh Samui

The farm, where crocodiles are bred and exotic shows are held, is located 200 metres from Samui Airport. Visitors can see the breeding of baby crocodiles, feed them with a fishing rod, and purchase souvenirs made of crocodile and snake skin.
