EU Digital vaccine certificate becomes official
According to Greek Reporter, the presidents of the European Parliament, Council of the EU and the European Commission have facilitated travel and movements between countries by making the EU digital vaccine certificate official.
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis pushed the idea for a Covid certificate in January 2021 with the purpose to get ahead of the summer tourist season as well as reassure that the country will be safe for travelers again.
The EU digital vaccine certificate is completely secure and free of charge, and now available on paper or digitally for all EU citizens.
The new document significantly expands travel options even if all the Europeans are allowed to move freely across the continent without a new certificate. The exclusion is quarantine for vaccinated people or those who can prove that they are free of the virus.
According to the regulation, member states should refuse to impose any additional travel restrictions on holders of the certificate if they are not necessary and appropriate for the health protection.
The regulation on the vaccine certificate will be valid from July 1, 2021 for the period of one year.
The initial six-week period for the issuance of certificates will be designated for those member countries that need extra time to start and run their activities.
