Do you own a holiday home? If so then you will need to make sure that it is as easy to maintain as possible. If you don’t then you may find that you are constantly having to replace things and that you end up wasting money as a result. This is the last thing you need, but one thing you can do is try and work around this by simply putting in the work to choose materials and finishes that last for years to come.

Be Mindful When Choosing Furniture

If you have pets or kids then you will probably know how difficult furniture can be to keep clean. Whether you are dealing with spills from drinks, food or even pet hair, you may end up regretting how much you spend on furniture for your holiday home. When choosing furniture, try and take into account who is going to be staying with you. Leather is a fantastic material if you want something that is low maintenance and most of the time you can wipe it down. Microfibre cloths are great for this, so be sure to stock up. If you are choosing dining room furniture then it could be wise for you to choose options that come with a removable seat pad as this means you can throw them in the wash with ease.

Choose the Right Floor

When choosing a floor, you need to choose something that is super low maintenance. If you don’t then you may find that it is very difficult for you to keep your holiday home looking great. Vinyl click flooring is one of the best options here, as it is easy to fit, easy to clean and most of all, affordable. Floors like this can also be very warm and cosy if you choose the right option, so be mindful of that as it could make a major difference to your holiday home.

Avoid Open Plan

Sure, open-plan layouts are ideal if you want to take advantage of a contemporary look and they can also provide you with a fantastic way to open your space. With that in mind, they can be time-consuming to maintain. Since all of your plates, and your cooking vessels will be on display, they will get coated with grease and grime. This means that you may spend way more time cleaning than you have to. A compromise would be for you to opt for semi-gloss cabinet doors as you can wipe them down and still have them look modern and fresh.

Stay Clear of Matte

Whether it is matte paint or matte wallpaper, you have to stay away if possible. If you want a low-maintenance holiday home then it can be tough to clean this finish and you may also find that it stains very easily. Shinier finishes work very well so make sure you keep that in mind as it could make a major difference to your holiday home as well as its overall appeal.
