The Spain’s government plans to launch a scheme for digital nomad visas. Foreign nationals who work remotely will obtain a residence permit in the country for up to five years. The government also plans to provide tax incentives: an income tax of 15% instead of the standard 25% tax.
Preliminary rules for obtaining a visa are established:
- Close relatives of the applicant can obtain a visa,
- The applicant must earn at least 80% of his income in companies outside Spain,
- Only applicants outside the European Economic Area may apply for a visa,
- Proven remote work experience of at least one year,
- The applicant must prove residency at a specific address in Spain and a monthly income sufficient for living in the country.
Cities such as Madrid, Valencia and Barcelona are already in demand among EU digital nomads. Barcelona is considered to be a popular place to launch startups as the city is becoming a tech hub and relies less on tourism.
