Cyprus plans to join the Schengen area in 2024

Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Combos says that Cyprus’ accession to the Schengen zone and the visa-free programme are the top priorities of the Foreign Ministry for the next year.

Cyprus is currently undergoing the Schengen evaluation process to assess the country’s readiness to become part of the Schengen area. Experts also note that Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus, is planning to participate in the US visa-free programme.

Earlier, Cyprus joined the Schengen Information System (SIS) which was created to ensure border security and control in Europe.
