Germany: new law on skilled workers will come into force in March 2024
The new German law aimed at attracting non-EU skilled workers will come into force from 1 March 2024. This was announced by a spokesman for the German Ministry of the Interior.
The main goal of the bill is to avoid the labour shortage in the country by attracting more highly qualified specialists.
The representative of the German Interior Ministry also said the requirements for family reunification will be relaxed as part of the new rules. Qualified foreign specialists coming to Germany after March 2024 will have more opportunities for family reunification. They will be able to apply for a visa to invite their relatives, including parents or relatives of a spouse.
Immigration of nuclear family members to Germany (i.e. spouses and unmarried minor children) will also be simplified. Qualified workers will no longer have to provide proof of accommodation. It will be sufficient to prove their ability to provide for their family financially.
