Grenada is a sovereign country with a rich British heritage. It gained independence in 1974 and has maintained a stable system of English common law, making it an attractive destination for wealthy investors. The country offers one of the most promising investment programs in the region, combining legal transparency, tax flexibility, and global access. This makes the Grenadian passport a true instrument of freedom and mobility.

Investors can not only obtain a second citizenship but also open up new opportunities. With a Grenadian passport, they can enjoy access without a prior visa to 148 destinations as of 30 September 2026, including China and the UK, as well as the opportunity to apply for an E-2 investor visa to the US after at least three continuous years of domicile in Grenada and meeting the US business investment requirements. Obtaining citizenship does not require residence in Grenada and does not itself exempt holders from taxes in their country of tax residence; processing time depends on the checks.

Grenada’s reliable jurisdiction and flexible approach make it an attractive option for those who want to expand their horizons and achieve their goals.

How to Get Grenada Citizenship

The Grenada Citizenship by Investment Program was established in 2013, based on the Citizenship by Investment Act No. 15, as a response to the need for economic diversification after the financial crisis and the hurricanes that affected the tourism sector. The goal of the program is to attract foreign investment into the construction, tourism, and infrastructure development sectors. Since its inception, the program has been overseen by international consultants such as Henley & Partners, who have helped to increase its credibility in the global market.

As of 2025, the program has seen record levels of success: more than 3,000 people were recorded as new citizens in the first half of 2024 alone, and 5,443 over the entire year. The refusal rate was only around 6%, which is a significant improvement over previous years. In 2022, for example, 453 applications were approved and 1,486 passports were issued over the course of the year.

Over the entire period of the program, more than 17,000 passports have been granted, the majority of which were issued in the past two years. These results confirm the strong interest of investors and the effectiveness of the selection process.

The program is also family-friendly, allowing spouses, children under 30, parents, and even grandparents to apply for citizenship. Grenada offers dual citizenship, which means that applicants do not need to reside in the country, and has an attractive tax system with no taxes on global income, capital gains, or inheritance.

Grenada Passport Benefits

  • Global freedom of movement

As of 30 September 2026, access without a prior visa covers 148 destinations, including the Schengen Area, China, and Singapore. An ETA is required for short visits to the UK.

  • No residency obligations

The current IMA guidance does not require a visit to obtain citizenship; citizenship is indefinite, while the passport has a limited validity. The application of new post-citizenship presence requirements needs to be checked.

  • Legal dual citizenship

Grenada allows you to retain your origial citizenship legally, without giving up your previous passport.

  • The legacy of a U.S. ally — a pathway to the E-2 visa

Under its treaty with the United States, Grenadian citizens may apply for an E-2 investor visa. Those who obtained citizenship through investment need at least three continuous years of domicile in Grenada and must meet the US business investment requirements.

  • Citizenship that unites a generations

The program makes it possible to obtain a passport for the whole family — from spouses and children to parents and siblings — in single application, while maintaining the connection between generations.

  • Pressure-free economy: zero tax burden

As an heir to the British tax model, Grenada does not tax global income, capital gains, inheritance, and foreign assets — this creates space for growth without fiscal constraints.

Grenada Passport Ranking & Visa-Free Countries

As of 30 September 2026, the Grenada passport ranks 27th globally with access to 148 destinations without a prior visa, and 34th in VisaIndex with 145 destinations. These scores include visas on arrival and electronic travel authorisations; Passport Index uses a separate methodology.

As of 30 September 2026, access without a prior visa covers 148 destinations, including the Schengen Area, China, and Singapore. An ETA is required for short visits to the UK.

Grenada Passport Validity

The Grenada passport is issued for a period of 5 years upon initial registration. This is a standard practice for all new citizens, including adults and children. The passport is applied for after the certificate of citizenship has been issued, following fulfilment of the investment conditions and state approval.

After the expiration of the five-year period, the passport can be extended. At the same time, adults (aged 18 or over) are issued a passport valid for 10 years, and children under 18 years old receive a passport valid for another 5 years.

The renewal procedure is quite simple and can be performed either in Grenada itself through the Passports and Immigration Department or through consulates or accredited agents abroad. To extend it, you will need to submit an application, provide an old passport and recent photos, and pay a fee: the Grenadian embassy in China lists US$350 for adults and US$250 for children under 18.

If your name, marital status, or address has changed during the time you have held your passport, you will also need to confirm these changes with the appropriate documents.

Grenada Passport Renewal

Renewing a Grenada passport is a straightforward procedure that does not require a personal visit to the country and can be performed remotely. Initially, the passport is issued for a period of 5 years. On renewal, adults receive a 10-year passport, while children under 18 receive a 5-year passport. Renewal can be processed either at the Grenada Passport Office or through consulates and accredited agents abroad.

Grenada Dual Citizenship

Grenada, as a country with a British colonial heritage, has maintained a liberal approach to the institution of citizenship since gaining independence in 1974. In line with its own legislation and in the spirit of the British legal tradition, the country officially allows dual citizenship. This means that new citizens, including participants in the investment program, can retain their original citizenship without having to renounce it. This position reflects Grenada’s pragmatic approach to attracting investors, developing economic diplomacy, and strengthening ties with the global diaspora.

Grenada Citizenship for Indian Citizens

Grenada and India share historical ties rooted in their common past under British colonial rule and continued membership in the Commonwealth. Since gaining independence in 1974, Grenada has maintained strong diplomatic and cultural connections with other Commonwealth nations, including India. These ties are reinforced by shared legal traditions, parliamentary systems, and a mutual interest in fostering economic cooperation.

For Indian citizens, Grenadian citizenship can broaden access to China and the Schengen Area; short visits to the UK require an ETA. India does not permit dual citizenship, so acquiring Grenadian citizenship affects the right to retain an Indian passport.

Grenada Citizenship for UK Citizens

For British nationals, Grenadian citizenship does not itself change UK tax residence or exempt foreign income and assets from UK taxation. On 6 April 2025, the UK replaced the remittance basis for non-domiciled residents with a four-year foreign income and gains regime for eligible new residents. Grenada’s shared legal heritage, English-speaking institutions, and diplomatic ties may provide familiarity, but cross-border tax planning depends on individual circumstances.
