The United Arab Emirates offers a residence visa for children, allowing expatriate families to legally reside in the country with their dependent offspring. This visa is an essential aspect for families looking to establish a stable and long-term presence in the UAE.
UAE Residence Visa for Children eligibility criteria
An expatriate resident may sponsor the residence visa for their children if they fulfill the following sponsorship requirements.
Sponsor requirements:
- Sponsors must have a minimum income of $1,090 a month for male sponsors and $2,722 for female sponsors.
- The sponsor must have a valid UAE residence visa.
Children requirements:
- An expatriate resident can sponsor their daughter only if she is unmarried, with no restrictions on her age.
- A resident can sponsor a son up to the age of 25. Sons with special needs can be sponsored without age restrictions.
- Babies born in the UAE can obtain a residence visa within 120 days of their birth.
- Stepchildren are also eligible for sponsorship visas.
- The child must be a biological or adopted offspring of the primary visa holder (usually one of the parents).
UAE Residence Visa for Child application process
Parents or legal guardians can initiate the visa application process for their children using the official form on the website of the Federal Identity and Citizenship Authority (ICA).
Required documents typically include the child’s passport, passport-size photographs, a copy of the child’s birth certificate, and the parents’ residency permits.
Children above 18 years must undergo and pass medical fitness tests at approved health centres and provide a medical clearance certificate.
The sponsor should also provide a salary certificate from the employer stating their monthly salary and a registered tenancy contract.
Education Visa for Children in the UAE
A student can stay in the UAE for studying, either under the sponsorship of their parents, who should be a resident of the UAE or under the sponsorship of the accredited university or college they are studying at. A student visa is given for a duration of one year, at a time, renewable for a similar period upon proof of continuation of a study.
Renewal and validity of the UAE Residence Visa
The expiry date of the dependent’s residence visa does not exceed that of the sponsor. Renewal procedures must be initiated before the visa expires, and it often involves submitting updated documentation and meeting the financial requirements.
