Montenegro’s government member speaks up for continuing the Golden Passport programme

Montenegrin Minister of Finance Aleksander Damjanovic urged to extend the period of citizenship-by-investment programme, despite the pressure from the European Union. The Minister said that the closure of the project would be detrimental to the economy of Montenegro. Damjanovic assumes that the Montenegrin government will create income of 35-70 million euros next year due to «golden passports».
According to the government, 108 foreign nationals participated in the Golden Passport programme and obtained citizenship for investment. Most of the foreign investors were from Russia and China.
According to Montenegrin Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic, the citizenship-by-investment project has brought numerous benefits to the country. For instance, new jobs have been created.
Earlier, the Prime Minister reported that the Golden Passport programme will be completed by December 31, 2022.
