Castle – Perugia, Umbria, Italy
- Total area3,500 m²
- Land area46,480 m²
The tradition attributes the legendary foundation of the castle to Mr. Bernardo Montesperelli, dating it back to 608 A. C. The historiography data and, again, the strategic position of the rock offer a raison d'être to the legend. Indeed, the castle was part of the named Byzantine Corridor: a defensive and communication Byzantine line against the Goths’ attacks – before – and the Longboards one then. It is clear that the military administration of the city of Perugia, pro-Byzantine, had taken the advantages from a presidio of the territory as important as the one of Montesperello. Nowadays, the architectonical complex named “Castello di Monte Sperello” appears to be composed by volumes placed on the top of the namesake high ground, it is reachable through the Via del Castello street, from where it is possible also to enter to the adjacent parish church. The whole property is surrounded by rock walls that define also the internal spaces and the access roads. Currently, the structure has four different accesses, which represent a kind of labyrinthine enigma for the visitor, uncertain about the path to take. On the contrary, for a future renovation project, the multiplicity of accesses may be interpreted as a great resource. They can be used to create different paths that, thanks to beautiful and unique views, can evoke different impressions and sensations on the guests, depending on the access chosen and the event a person is taking part in. the complex is composed by three separated bodies, for a total of about 3.500 sqm, divided into a noble residence, a Nineteenth Century building, an another building historically used as utility rooms – stables, workshops, factories. The complex includes 4,64 ha land, that consists of the courtyard, the wooden park and 350 olive trees. Further information are available upon request.
The property is equipped with electrical connection, public aqueduct connection, 3 rainwater harvesting tanks.
Between 2013 and 2017, under the carful supervision of the current ownership, the structural parts of Castello di Montesperello has been completely renovated (roofs, facades, internal ceilings). The owners have done the conservative-aimed works with a great passion, obtaining so an excellent result. Inside, the property needs to be completed with systems, pavements and upholsteries, external and internal doors and windows.
Part of the complex needs some renovation works aimed to the maintenance of the property and to give it a new life. This magnificent luxury residence can be used as a private residence or as a respected representation structure. Moreover, considering the beauty and the high historical value of this amazing property, it can also be used as luxury touristic facility. A quite unique opportunity of investment, located in the core of the green-Umbria.
