Sovalye Island is part of a chain consisting of 12 islands, located in the inner Gulf of Fethiye. It's only 20 minutes at most between Fethiye town and Sovalye by water taxi. Most tourists are attracted by the pacification of the island. The island is surrounded by a beautiful natural landscape, with its turquoise water and numerous trees, overhanging the Gulf of Fethiye. The tiny islands scattered around the bay, which in ancient times was known as the Gulf of Glaukos, named in honor of the Lycian general who fought in the Trojan War. Boarding a boat in Fethiye harbour and heading out of the bay, across whose mouth lies Sovalye Island, leaving only two channels at the east and west extremities.
The narrow eastern channel is too shallow for large boats and ships. In many cases the same advantages which attracted the people of antiquity to a particular spot are still valid today, which is why contemporary towns and cities in Turkey are so often built onor near ancient cities.
