Despite its diminutive size, 14 km long and 4 km wide, Alonissos has an embarrassment of riches when it comes to beaches. Arguably the best ones are to be found along the east coast and on the southern tip. Established in 1992, its 2,250 km2 is home to a fascinating variety of flora, fauna, marine life (including Meditteranean monk seals) and unspoilt natural beauty. Skiathos airport: a 1 hr 35 hydrofoil crossing, Athens International Airport: 35–40 minutes to Alonissos by helicopter. Patitiri town and port: 10 km-6 miles-18 mins. Nearest shops, tavernas and amenities: 5 mins drive or 5mins walk in Steni Vala. Nearest beaches: Agios Petros and Glifa' reachable in 5 minutes on foot. Agios Dimitros: 10 minutes by car, 6 km (3.7 miles). The small fishing harbour, Kalamakia (home to some excellent, seaside fish tavernas) is also within a 10 minute drive. Skopelos Island is 30 minutes away by hydrofoil.
