Getxo is a municipality in the сoast province of Biscay, in the Basque Country. It is situated on the right bank of the estuary of The Bilbao. It is part of the region of Greater Bilbao and Bilbao metropolitan area. Notable for the presence of palaces and houses built by the gentry during the industrialization.
Las Arenas and Neguri emerged in the late nineteenth century as a residential area of the Basque industrial bourgeoisie. Neguri the neighborhood is characterized by the mansions that were built to house the bourgeoisie selected, still today, a residential area with luxury homes.
Neguri comes from the fusion of two Basque words: Negua and Hiri (winter and city respectively) Winter City designed for the Basque bourgeoisie.
