Spain is one of the most popular destinations among overseas real estate buyers for its warm climate, affordable property and right to permanent residency for real estate over €500,000. Apartments for sale in Spain are the most sought-after by buyers.

The typical foreign property buyer will choose a house from €100,000 within walking distance of the sea. Spanish apartment for sale prices start at €30,000–40,000 for a studio while spacious six- or seven-bedroom flats overlooking the sea can cost millions of euros. The average price per square meter in buy and sell deals in June 2014 was about €1,600 across the nation, €1,240 in Torrevieja, €2,000 in Marbella and about €3,200 in Barcelona. Investors looking to buy a flat in Spain at a cheaper price should consider the Costa Blanca over Costa Daurada and Costa Brava.

Spanish apartments lost 35% of their value between 2006 and late 2012 with the price per square metre dropping from €2,892 to €1,891. Flat prices continued to fall during 2013 making it a good year to buy property. However, despite the year-on-year decrease of 8.3%, buyers are now returning to the market and prices are expected to rise over the next 2–3 years.
