      Can a foreigner buy apartment in Chamonix?
      Currently, there are no restrictions for foreigners buying property in France. However, if you decided, for example, to buy property in Chamonix directly from the owner, you may face encumbrances, difficulties in proper registration and an inflated cost (sometimes the price is twice the price that can be offered to a French citizen).

      In France, Chamonix is one of the few alpine resorts to be enjoyed all the year round. Apartments in Chamonix are popular with the French, Brits and Scandinavians. The resort’s sports and leisure infrastructure is available throughout the year.

      Buying prices for flats in Chamonix range from €3,500 to €8,000/sq m and average on €5,000–5,500/sq m. To buy a 45–50 sq m apartment costs €300,000–350,000. Homes in traditional buildings to be renovated can sell for about €3,000/sq m. Prices of flats for sale in residential complexes near popular routes overlooking Mont Blanc can go up to €9,000–10,000/sq m. Five- or six-bedroom 100–140 sq m apartments in Chamonix cost over €1M.
